Coolship Roadtrip Rolls into Year 3

February 27, 2018

This week we’re completing our third consecutive year of our “Coolship Roadtrip”! Back in February of 2016, we took wort from our coolship at Jester King and drove it to Prairie Artisan Ales in Tulsa, Oklahoma for fermentation in their barrels. We also did the same thing in reverse by driving wort from Prairie’s coolship to Jester King to ferment in our barrels. The idea was to do a “culture swap” of sorts by bringing microbes from Tulsa down to Austin and vice versa. It was also just plain fun to load up a whole batch of wort and drive it across state lines!

We’re now in our third year of Coolship Roadtrip. Our plan is to give this year’s beer at least a year to mature, then create a three year blend from our 2016, 2017 and 2018 batches. If all goes well, the beer “Coolship Roadtrip” will ultimately be released in late 2019 or early 2020. Creating a three year blend of 100% spontaneously fermented beer takes a long time! We plan to create three year blends at both American Solera and Jester King, so individual blends will get released in both Oklahoma and Texas.

Coolship Roadtrip is now officially a project with American Solera in Tulsa. Our good friend Chase Healey sold Prairie Artisan Ales in 2016 and now owns American Solera. When Coolship Roadtrip ultimately gets released, it will officially be an American Solera / Jester King collaboration.
