First Bottling Day

On Saturday we filled about 1,600 bottles (~130 cases) of Black Metal Imperial Stout. We had a great group of volunteers helping us who were willing to brave the cold, wet conditions.

All of the Black Metal we bottled is bottle conditioned for natural carbonation. Prior to filling the bottles, the beer was mixed with yeast and sugar. The yeast in the bottle consumes the sugar and produces CO2, which carbonates the beer. We expect the bottles to take about two to three weeks to fully condition. All of the bottles we’re using are 750mL, amber, champagne-style.
