Open the Taps Rally at Jester King & Das Wunderkind! Bottle Release Tasting

January 1, 2012

This coming Saturday, January 7th from 1 to 4pm at Jester King during our regular tour and tasting room hours we’ll have a rally to gain support for the grassroots movement Open the Taps. Open the Taps is a consumer advocacy organization dedicated to bettering the craft beer environment in Texas. Its two main goals heading toward the 2013 Texas legislative session mirror two of the claims we lost in our recent lawsuit against the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC):

1) Allow Texas Craft breweries to sell their beer directly to the public via tasting rooms, similar to how the Texas Wine industry currently operates.

2) Allow Texas brewpubs the opportunity to have their beer distributed to retail stores and bars.

We hope you join us for the rally and lend your support to a cause that will improve craft and artisan beer in Texas. If you can’t make it, you can still join Open the Taps at the link below. We’ve been directing people who were interested in financially supporting our lawsuit against TABC to donate to Open the Taps.

Saturday the 7th will also double as our bottle release party for Das Wunderkind! Sour Saison. Das Wunderkind! is the first beer we’ve bottled from our barrel room. It’s an unfiltered, unpasteurized, bottle conditioned wild ale oak barrel aged with native, Hill Country wild yeast and souring bacteria. We’re excited for you to try it. Unfortunately Texas law prevent us from selling bottles of Das Wunderkind! at our brewery (hence part of the need for Open the Taps), but we’ll be pouring small samples of the beer for you to try.

As part of our normal tour and tasting room hours on the 7th, we’ll have the great food truck Coreanos Mexican Cuisine with Korean in Between and wonderful music from the Jake Levinson Band.

As far as our beer menu at Jester King that day, in addition to the samples of Das Wunderkind! Sour Saison, we’ll have two special casks and four draught beers:

Noble King Hoppy Farmhouse Ale (Cask)
Mad Meg Farmhouse Provision Ale (Draught)
Le Petit Prince Farmhouse Table Beer (Draught)
Thrash Metal Farmhouse Strong Ale (Draught)
Bonnie the Rare Berliner Weisse (Draught)
Löwenbräu Buttenheim Kellerbier (Guest Gravity Keg)

We hope to see you! For directions and general details about our Saturday tour and tasting hours, click on this link:
